The Story of Sangthong, written by King Rama II (1809-1824), is amongst the best loved of all Thai folk stories. It has long been told in plays and popularly performed as folk dram performed outside the palace which is in ancient times the plays were acted only by men. Sangthong is the folklore story of a prince called Phra Sang (Sangthong) who was born in a conch shell and banished from the palace by astrologer?s advice as the bribe of jealousy Lady Suwan. Phra Sang grows up and fights against fate until finally the story ends up happily. Phra Sang marries a beautiful princess and rule the country of his father peaceful everlastingly.
