Peony is the Queen of Flowers and emblem of wealth, beauty and happy. In the Song era, it acquired nicknames of 'wealth flower'. It is especially favored by the upper classes and considered a symbol of prosperity. Peony was often used in paintings, handicrafts and embroidery. In other meaning the peony is a symbol of love and affection and is representative of good luck and of spring in the cycle of the four seasons. Chinese believe that one who loves peony would love reality and pure things so they love peace and quite isolated.
The word vase in Chinese sounds much like the word for peace. Giving peony to someone means you want that person to take care of him/herself for you.
