Chinese Blessing Dolls III (LE-59A2B)

Prior to New Year's Day, Chinese families decorate their living rooms with vases of pretty blossoms and platters of fruits. On walls and doors are poetic couplets, happy wishes written on red paper. For instance, "May you enjoy continuous good health" and "May the Star of Happiness, the Star of Wealth and the Star of Longevity shine on you" are especially positive couplets.

It is the customary practice, the Chinese considers gifts as an important part of showing courtesy, especially gifts accompanied with blessing calligraphy and cute cartoons of best wishes symbols, all make the gifts very much more extraordinary. These two PINN cross stitch patterns of New Year Wishes show blessing symbols:

  • Gold Fish - In ancient cultures fish were used as a charm to avert evil also to express perseverance through scholarship and special advantage in business. For Feng Shui followers, this picture of prosperity should be placed in your home office, bedroom or living room to enhance your wealth and bless the room with abundance, especially for success in business.
  • Lotus - Symbol of purity and abundance. The lotus and fish motif is a play on words sounds like the phrase "gold in abundance" that expresses a wish for surplus wealth year after year.
  • Orange - A most required fruit in Chinese New Year food, both the orange and gold have the same pronunciation which is also homonymous with "sweetness". Orange therefore brings sweetness and wealth to life. The orange is a prayer or wish for good fortune. That is why it is probably the most common food offering.
  • Peony - Symbol of happiness and wealth.

Deeply inspired by Chinese ancient beliefs that still reflects in today culture, traditional art and lifestyle, these type of blessing in cartoon images and calligraphy frequently appear on children's clothing, trimmings and decorative objects. Thus a Chinese theme cross stitch is great handmade gift and home decoration.
