Dignity the Peacock
Peacock
has been appeared in many mythologies of many cultures. To East
Indian, peacock symbolizes to love, passion, luck, protection
and prosperity while Greek and Romans believe that peacock is
favorite birds to Juno or Hera, Empress of Olympus Heaven and
their mythologies said the peacock's tail created by the eyes
of Hera's one hundred-eyed guard, Argus. By the appearance as
one bird with one hundred eyes, Christians would say that it represents
the stars, the universe, the sun, the moon and the vault of heaven.
To
Chinese culture, peacock emblem of dignity, beauty and driving
away any evil. In ancient Chinese empire, peacock feather were
awarded to confer official rank for meritorious service and denote
imperial favor. Chinese ascribed 9 virtues to peacocks that they
have tidy face, clear voice, careful walk, appropriate behavior
according to place and time, moderation in eating and drinking,
knowing how to be content, existing together, not being obscene
and always returning. All that virtues make people impress, then
peacock would be appearing in many arts. Peacock also has long
been as a symbol of immortality, said to be from the annual renewing
of its feathers and each time of renewing they would grant more
graceful.
